Owosso High School
I student taught at Owosso High School from the fall of 2011 through the spring of 2012. Owosso is a rural community, about a half hour outside of Flint, Michigan. I observed and taught in an 11th grade World Literature class, as well as a 12th grade English class. My time at Owosso was the most beneficial time spent in the classroom during my time at MSU. The full year placement allowed me to engage with the students and my mentor teacher more so than I had done so in previous placements. I was a part of the classes reading literature such as Lord of the Flies and Night, which allowed me to create some of my first lesson plans. While at Owosso, I also became interested in what makes particular students succeed more than others, which I wanted to learn more about. Below is a short documentary I created, asking some of the seniors to voice their opinions about writing, and what motivates them to do well in school.
