Hello there...
I graduated
from Michigan State University's College of Education in the Spring of 2012 with
an English major and History minor for secondary education. I’m extremely
passionate about all elements of English and History - film, poetry, music, photography,
writing, theater, and especially literature. I’m excited about the cohesion of
these two subjects, and to be able to do that within my own classroom. I’m a nerd in
every sense of the word, and I simply can’t help but want to share my adoration
of both English and History with my students!
I’m also very interested in technology use within the classroom. I’m captivated by the emergence of new tools that younger generations are constantly using, and my portfolio demonstrates the implementation of these technologies in my own classroom. I myself am technologically literate, and believe that by including students’ own interests in their education, they are more likely to become involved and engaged in the process of learning, which should be the entire purpose of education.
During my time at MSU, I've had the opportunity to work in rural, suburban, and urban schools, allowing me to gain a multifaceted perspective of both middle and high school settings. Throughout my experiences in these various communities, I’ve realized the importance of helping students find their own intrinsic motivation to learn. This type of motivation is something I strive to ignite within my students, revolving around student-centered teaching and thus asking students to place a higher value on themselves, as well as their education and future. My lesson plans, unit plans, and personal and academic writing reflect these values, so please take the time to check them out!
